14.05.2013: WISI at ANGA COM 2013:

Optimized Systems and Solutions for Next Generation Networks

The fast merger of TV and the Internet and the rising number of HbbTV based media services are a challenge for the build-up and extension of future-proof TV headends and next generation networks. How this challenge could be managed in a very efficient way will be demonstrated by W ISI Communications GmbH & Co. KG (WISI) at ANGA COM (June 4 - 6, 2013) in Cologne at booth E9. The leading system provider and pioneer of reception and distribution solutions will show its next generation headend systems Chameleon and Tangram and its optimized optical platform Optopus. Another highlight is a new configured end device for WISI's Multi Screen Content Management System „AiMS", that for the first time combines HbbTV with classical IPTV.

New software features for Chameleon
WISI will present its headend conception Chameleon, that recently has been granted by the Society for Broadband Professionals (SCTE) in London with the international prestigious SCTE Award 2013 for Technical Innovation in the category „Best digital processing solution". This future-proof system has been extended by a number of new software features. Chameleon now has an integrated DVB simulcrypt scrambler that can be activated by a software key. This will protect DVB content easier. By this the encryption system can be connected via IP or ASI interface. Operation of an external scrambler is not anymore necessary. Additional features are new timer and trigger based functions for time sharing, flexible redundancies and the integrated extraction of NITs in cable networks.

Chameleon is a new software based headend concept for all future-oriented applications. As the name suggests, the headend can adapt to its environment in that the individual modules are able to alter their functions according to the demand. Its modular design allows Chameleon to meet the requirements of all uses from single unit stand-alone devices in SMATV applications up to complex headend units in large CATV networks. All module functions can be activated and configured via software license keys. This concept offers the operator a high security for his investment in the long term. Chameleon's software features among others are DVB tuners for different outputs, transmodulators, Edge-QAM, MPEG-4 Decoder, IP- and ASI streamer as well as re-multiplexer.

Tangram extended by four new modules
With the ongoing digitalization of networks more and more video signals are transported via IP transmission. For feeding these IP encapsulated video signals into the analogue access networks like RF Overlay or HFC, these need to be converted in QAM, COFDM, PAL and FM. WISI‘s product family Tangram is a high-density platform for extremely cost efficient „Edge" applications (IP-Gateway, Edge-QAM, Edge-COFDM, Edge-PAL and Edge-FM). The system offers all required features to be used in professional networks like redundant power supplies, 1+1 and n+1 redundancy, time sharing, SNMP management, replacement of modules and fans during operation and many more. WISI has extended its Tangram product family by four new modules. The new DVB-IP Gateway IP streamer GT 31, the switch extension board GT 12, the decryption module GT 42 and the Edge-COFDM module GT 24.

Optopus
The access platform Optopus ideally fits into every optical network such as FTTx with RF Overlay, RF over Glass architectures as well as HFC applications. This modular system provides the operator with high flexibility, reliability and a very high density. At ANGA COM WISI presents the optical high performing amplifier (EDFA) LX 35 that has a very high packing density. This new device offers the performance of two conventional amplifiers. This reduces cost for the operator and saves energy while in operation. LX35 is part of WISI's RF Overlay portfolio that consists of a comprehensive range of optical 1550nm transmitters and amplifiers. These in particular meet the necessary requirements of blast and split architectures used in Point-to-Point or PON networks.

Multi Screen Content Management System "AiMS"
TV and broadband internet are merging faster and faster. Drivers of this pan-European development are SmartTVs and mobile end devices combined with a changing consumer behavior. For network operators who would like to keep their ability to compete in this changing environment it is more and more important that they are able to provide HD TV content and multimedia services in any network on all available fixed and mobile devices. At ANGA COM WISI and its partner IP.Netcom will demonstrate HbbTV via conventional IPTV and show a Set-top box working with the ETSI DVB-IP standard that is able to process and display HbbTV functionalities and content (multicast TV channels) via a IP net.

The comprehensive Multi Screen Content Management Solution „AiMS" presents the available services in an identical lay-out and correct resolution on PCs, flat screens, smartphones, tablets and set-top-boxes with the highest possible bandwidths. According to the motto „Any video from any source to any device in any network" the user is able to take the service to any place with his tablet or smartphone.

Headendsystem WISI OH
WISI also present its compact headend system OH with the Twin A/V Encoder module OH66. The modular and flexible expandable system offers powerful technology at compact dimensions. The basic unit OH 50 offers slots for up to 14 modules. This allows optimal channel processing of up to 14 analogue TV channels respectively 28 digital transponder streams. WISI offers a broad portfolio of DVB modules, Twin DVB-S/S2 modules and optional accessories, e.g. for the programming and remote monitoring of the system.

26.03.2013: WISI granted with the SCTE Award 2013 for Technical Innovation for its headend system Chameleon

WISI Communications GmbH & Co. KG (WISI) has been granted by the Society for Broadband Professionals (SCTE) in London with the international prestigious SCTE Award 2013 for Technical Innovation in the category „Best digital processing solution" for its headend system Chameleon. Founded in 1945, the SCTE is a Learned Society and non-profit making organisation whose aim is to raise the standard of broadband engineering in the telecommunications industry. The Society particularly concerns itself with the training and career advancement of technical professionals in the field. By gaining this award world-wide pioneer for reception and distribution technologies WISI again confirms its leading position in developing and introducing of innovative technical solutions.

Chameleon is a completely new software based headend concept for all future-oriented applications. Due to future software upgrades this very flexible system offers a long product lifecycle of the hardware. As all WISI headend systems also Chameleon is very energy-efficient during operation. This preserves the environment and saves money for the operator.
