WISI @ IBC 2017: WISI presents innovative and cost-efficient solutions for Future TV and Next Generation Networks

Broadcasters, content providers, and TV platform and headend operators are facing major challenges concerning the cost-efficient and secure distribution of high-quality content to their customers. German firm WISI Communications GmbH & Co. KG (WISI), developer and provider of world class technology, will present at IBC 2017 (September 15 – 19) in Amsterdam various extended systems and solutions for Future TV and the efficient implementation and extension of next generation networks. These solutions fit into existing infrastructures and can be adapted for future requirements at low expenses. Highlights at the WISI stand B.50 in hall 5 are the new Multiscreen Launch Platform (MLP), the expanded multi-headend platforms CHAMELEON and TANGRAM, the optical platform OPTOPUS and the new professional broadcast platform FIREFLY.

New Multiscreen Launch Platform (MLP)

The new WISI Multiscreen Launch Platform (MLP) is a high-density transcoder, packager, and origin server in 1RU, ideal for high-value internet video services. This all-in-one carrier-grade product processed up to 12 HD or 24 SD sources and playout HLS streams to up to 500 subscribers simultaneously. It is the ideal OTT solution for video operators and integrators actively planning multiscreen trials, small deployments, or hospitality applications. With a multi-decade record of providing carrier-class video delivery to global hotel chains, WISI launches this new streaming solution to bring multiscreen technology easily to the hospitality industry. This end-to-end multiscreen solution is multilingual aware to better serve global operators, with DVB- subtitle burn-in and multi-audio support. Set up is simple with VidiOSTM, WISI’s powerful management and monitoring tool, which includes troubleshooting features such as video thumbnails, stream capture and download, extensive statistical analysis, and stream logging. The MLP plays in any web browser for easy accessibility - with a full channel list displayed on a customizable landing page.

WISI has integrated the probe functionality to provide the data for the international very successful All Seeing Eye monitoring and troubleshooting tool of its subsidiary Inca Networks into its multi-headend platform CHAMELEON. This multi-view visual monitoring platform gives operators greater visibility and reliability within their network. New are also two high density encoders that offer an outstanding price performance ratio and are ideal suited for applications in the hospitality industry. The first new encoder has up to four HDMI inputs. The second encoder offers up to four HD-/SD-SDI or analog Audio/Video inputs. Both encoders are equipped with an integrated advanced multiplexer, support MPEG-4 and MPEG-2, and are easy to combine with a CHAMELEON processor for further applications, such as Edge QAM, PAL and COFDM.

The support of the multi-view visual monitoring platform All Seeing Eye was also integrated in the multi-headend platform TANGRAM. In addition WISI has optimized the efficiency and application options of this system for IPTV and analog/digital TV solutions. The number of QAM channels in Annex B has been doubled for each module, from six to twelve – without additional costs. Also, the number of IP inputs has been increased to up to 128 streams per module and the data processing throughput has been raised from 800 Mbps to up to 1.7 Gbps. With the Verimatrix bulk decryption feature, video operators can deploy the flexible and modular TANGRAM chassis and cards to receive and decrypt up to 128 unique 4K, HD or SD Verimatrix scrambled video services, and then output them as any combination of IP, ASI, digital QAM or modulated analog CATV. TANGRAM in addition now supports the new satellite TV broadcasting DVB-S2X and offers additional features, such as Traffic-Shaping and real-time Transport Stream monitoring.

WISI’s new professional broadcast platform FIREFLY is a part of the end-to-end solution from playout to headend, complementing the delivery of video via satellite and dedicated lines. FIREFLY helps small and regional TV broadcasters, and TV and video service providers reduce costs for the distribution of their content. The new broadcast platform also offers interesting opportunities for corporate TV and video applications for corporations, such as TV services for employees located abroad, and efficient distribution of training content. The FIREFLY solution uses HLS for cost-effective and robust linear TV delivery to headends over the Internet. It also provides new options for cable network operators, and enables the hospitality industry to enhance existing offers with additional content and video services; for example, service providers will be able to supply citizens from abroad with TV channels from their home countries that cannot be received via satellite.

The optical platform OPTOPUS has been extended by WISI towards CCAP and DOCSIS 3.1. OPTOPUS is a remarkably flexible high-density platform for all kinds of RF optical networks. The system may be used in any network, such as HFC, RF over Glass and RF Overlay in FTTx applications. A novelty is the optical YEDFA amplifier LX 33 for HFC and FTTx networks. The LX 33 is designed in a short construction form, and the first device in WISI's new street cabinet platform. It can be operated in stand-alone mode or integrated into the OPTOPUS ecosystem. Currently, WISI provides the amplifier in the versions 8x 17 dBm and 8x 21 dBm. The output power can be adjusted. Features include an input power range of -3 to 10 dBm, an optical test port for the output signals, APC and ALC regulation, redundant fans and power supply, and a universal communication interface via SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) for online management scenarios. The LX 33 is also completely front line designed. Also a new member of the OPTOPUS family is the RFoG Upstream Receiver LX 25. With further development of the LX 24, it offers up to 32 optical upstreams and is optimal for simple migration in OBI-Free RFoG-Networks. For simple insertion into street cabinets, the receiver is accessible from the front. With the LX25, WISI now offers a complete portfolio for comprehensive DOCSIS 3.1 environments based at 1.2 GHz.
